I have decided to use MySQL for my new project, taking into consideration that when I need to scale out, there are some middleware solutions out there like dbshards and scalebase that can solve my MySQL scalability problems.
However, one of my blog visitors told me about another solution called InfiniDB 3 from CalPont.com. I am currently reading about it. It suppose to help you easily scale out and deploy the servers / nodes on Amazon web services easily. This database seems to be perfect for Big Data Analytics, but if the technology is there to suit BI software, it can handle any type of database (I guess).
I will provide you with more information about it and I also want to know how much it costs (crucial)
Meanwhile, take a look at calpont InfiniDB3 page.
There is also some very informative article on itmarketstratey.com, but it's a bit old (Nov. 2010)
Update: after looking at the following license cost (might change, it's for InfiniDB Enterprise 2.0) it certainly out of my reach.. :(
It seems good solutions costs - but what about the poor developer who just start its startup, why not make a cheaper license so more people can adopt your technology, Like pay more when you grow and need the capacity. It's great that you can deploy the technology on Amazon Cloud, but the all idea is to pay as you grow, pay less now and when you need more performance you already have the money to pay for it (if you monetize your app right).
So I guess that I am passing this solution for now.
